Importance of STEM at Trinity

“Trinity recognizes the importance of producing students with strong problem solving, and team building skills. This is because teachers challenge their students with projects that require them to innovate, and to create real world solutions. The school also offers an exceptional number of opportunities outside of the classroom to experience the success of accomplishing great things together”

-Tom Stueve

For High School: Solar Car

Trinity is proud to be the home of the Pacific Northwest’s only High School Solar Car team: OHSSCT.  The team has attended the Solar Car Challenge 4 times, placing 4th twice and 5th once. OHSSCT presents students with the opportunity to apply the knowledge learned in the classroom to real-world problems that can typically only be found in the workplace. Team members will work alongside industry professionals and will be mentored by experts. These professionals will teach them technical skills while the students: design electrical systems, wire automotive platforms, create carbon-composite structures and frames, build a fully functional mechanical system, and approach potential sponsors when asking for financial and material sponsorship for the team. Solar car is truly an invaluable resource for students, preparing them for future internships and jobs, while also setting them miles ahead of their competition during the college application phase.

For Middle School: FIRST Lego Robotics

Trinity is home to several Lego Robotics teams, which take part in the FIRST Lego League (FLL) Robotics challenge. Each year, students are given the opportunity to create a team, build their robot, program it, and put it to the test against other teams from around the county. Tom Stueve coaches the teams each year, and we have proudly attended the state level competition nearly every year since we began attending. All middle school students are welcome to join the teams, and no experience is necessary to take part.
