Bend Bulletin: March 26. 2006
Eight local students have been named as finalists in the 2006 Oregon Geographic Bee, which will take place at Western Oregon University on March 31. Schools with fourth- through eighth-grade students held the Geographic Bees, which tested students' knowledge of geography. School level winners then took a qualifying test and the top 100 in Oregon were invited to the finals.
Local finalists are:
* Joseph Geenen, eighth-grader at Obsidian Middle School;
* Devon Shinkle, eighth-grader at Crook County Middle School;
* Justin Fuller, eighth-grader at Jefferson County Middle School;
* Matthew Kittrell, seventh-grader at La Pine Middle School;
* Neil Rosenquist, seventh-grader at High Desert Middle School;
* Alexander Hardin, seventh-grader at Trinity Lutheran School;
* Eli Forman, sixth-grader at Seven Peaks School;
* Kaylee Tornay, who attends the High Desert Educational Service District Home Program.
